I am going to try and explain there are federal regulations for transporters and what those regulations are. There are a lot of people that do not realize truckers must stop along the highways and interstates of America to have their log bogs checked. This takes a lot of time away from the drive they are on. Each state has what is known as a DOT weigh station and check point.
What these DOT check points do is keeping many drivers on the roads safe and out of harms way. a DOT officer will randomly spot check the trucks and trailers that pass through it. That is not based upon who they want to pull in for a check but, it is done by the computer telling them that the company needs it’s truck checked. After the truck goes across the scale to ensure it is not overweight, it is then pulled in for a safety inspection. The air brakes are the first thing checked to ensure they are in proper working order.
The axle seals and tires are next on the list. The lights are looked at to ensure they are all working. Not the lights on the vehicles that are being transported but, those on the trailer. These types of safety checks will keep your car safe as, the trucks maintenance means it will travel safely down the road.
The driver is not permitted to drive an unlimited amount of time either! Please note that while you might drive say 18 straight to Florida From New York, the professional driver is not allowed to by law. They must stop after a maximum of 14 straight hours and take 8 hours in the sleeper or a motel with the truck parked. Unless they have a team driving situation that is. This will keep a sleepy driver from hurting someone in a passenger car. Motorcycle transport companies keep the drivers logs either on paper or on a computer log. so the next time you think the driver could have made it there, please remember these simple rules that most people know and understand.
I know that many drivers will explain to the people they are transporting for, when they expect to arrive within, a four hour window. If traffic moves and no other issues arise, these motorcycle transport companies are usually with 2 hours of the time they told you the day they picked up your bike! Never worry, they will stay in contact with you to make sure you know where they are. Enjoy your transport experience and give the driver a tip, he works very hard for little pay these days with the price of fuel!
